Baptism Guidelines

Congratulations on the birth or adoption of your child. We are glad that you chose to celebrate his/her baptism with us. The following are the guidelines that need to be followed in preparation for that sacred day.

For members of the Tri-Parish Catholic Community

  • You must be registered and practicing members of one of our churches.
  • If this is your first child to be baptized the parents need to attend a baptism preparation class.
  • All basic information must be given to the parish office.
  • Proposed Baptism date needs to be given to the parish office at least two weeks in advance and must be approved by the office. Waivers are considered on a case by case basis.
  • Baptisms are traditionally performed after mass.
  • There is not a set fee for baptisms but a free will donation to the church and the minister would be appreciated.
  • If you wish to use the hall for a party after the baptism you will need to fill out the hall use form and meet all hall use guidelines.

For non-parishioners, all of the above apply plus the regulations below

  • If you are not a parishioner we need a letter from your pastor giving us permission to baptize your child.

Godparent eligibility

  • At least one of the godparents must be a baptized, confirmed, and practicing Catholic.
  • A parent cannot serve as a godparent.
  • A godparent must be at least sixteen years old and have been baptized, and confirmed.
  • If married, the godparent must be in a sacramental marriage.
  • If the proposed godparent is not a parishioner he/she must submit a letter from their pastor stating that he/she is a practicing Catholic.
  • Non-Catholics may be considered for godparent but they must meet all the requirements of a Catholic godparent. Non-Catholics are recorded as a Christian Witness rather than godparent.
  • Non-baptized persons cannot be godparents.
